Fortinet Discovers MSRawImage Store Raw Decoders Out-of-bound Memory Write Vulnerability

Summary

Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs has discovered out-of-bounds memory write vulnerability in Microsoft Raw Image Extension.

The Raw Image Extension adds native viewing support for images captured in raw file formats produced by many mid- to high-end digital cameras

The out-of-bounds memory write vulnerability exists due to unsanitized user-controlled data crafted in a raw image file parsed by a vulnerable component. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could obtain remote code execution on the user's system.
