Fortinet Discovers Sony SmartTV Vulnerabilities

Summary

Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs has discovered a remote code execution in Photo Sharing app on Sony Smart TV.

BRAVIA is a brand of Sony Visual Products Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation, and used for its television products. Photo Sharing Plus is unique feature of the BRAVIA TV, it allows customers to connect, view, and save favorite photos, videos, and songs on the TV using devices such as smartphones or tablets.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user input in the Photo Sharing Plus web application. As a result, it can lead to arbitrary code execution upon successful exploitation when the specifically crafted requests are sent to the service.

FortiGuard Labs released the following FortiGate IPS signature which covers this specific vulnerability:

Users should apply the patch provided by Sony.
