Alias/es

SymbOS/Cardtrap.A-wm

Detailed Analysis

This is a threat that can drop 4 different viruses onto supporting devices:

SymbOS/CardTrap.A!worm
SymbOS/Caribe.B!worm
W32/Rays.A!worm
W32/Padobot.Z!net

This virus is designed to infected and corrupt Series 60 devices running Symbian operating system, version 6 and higher. If the threat is installed either intentionally or accidentally, it could overwrite applications already existing on the device, as well as drop the above listed threats in various folders.

The virus will attempt to drop Rays.A and Padobot.Z onto memory card storage areas, and also write an AUTORUN.INF file in the same storage space. The AUTORUN.INF could function to launch Padobot.Z automatically, if the memory card is inserted into a pc-based card-reader, and the system supports execution of AUTORUN.INF files automatically when opening storage shares.

Recommended Action

  • delete all modules and binary files associated with this threat; replace applications that were overwritten from backup
